Huobi US closes, 7 weeks to withdraw all funds

US cryptocurrency customers on Huobi get a kick again.

Over the weekend, US exchange HBUS said on its website that it would be closed, halting all operations. This is to "ensure that it can return in a more integrated and efficient manner within its current strategic framework."

San Francisco-based HBUS services will end on December 15, although US customers will still be able to access their accounts until January 31 on 2020. Huobi US asked its customers to withdraw all funds by this time.

Prior to the move, HBUS's parent company, Singapore-based Huobi Global, just a few weeks ago informed its customers in the USA that it would block all assets owned by customers in the USA as a means of regulatory compliance.

Company gave its American customers the opportunity to withdraw funds by November 13, reflecting a change in the terms of service of the exchange, which made it so that customers in the United States were no longer allowed to use the Singapore exchange.

It was a maneuver that reflected how Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, managed to move to the United States. The Malta exchange has taken similar steps to turn off all services offered to users in the US in September before opening its own Binance.US US branch.
