IOTA integrates with STMicroelectronics to accelerate IoT integration

BERLIN, GERMANY (July 23, 2019) – The IOTA Foundation, a non-profit organization providing the world's first scalable, free, and fully decentralized distributed ledger technology, is working with STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum. electronics applications to create a new level of powerful, seamless and cost-effective access to the Internet of Things (IoT).
The cornerstone of this collaboration is the integration of IOTA Tangle, a free, peer-to-peer technology solution, to the STM32Cube ST extension software for the industry-leading 32-bit ecosystem MCU STM32, X-CUBE-IOTA1.

These relationships will provide the integration capabilities of the Internet of Things for the ST user community, which will allow customers to quickly and easily create and create prototypes of new IoT solutions for one or more devices. Equally important, developers can work while enjoying the opportunity to develop systems, environments, products and services with IOTA functionality and the power of a distributed, easily scalable Tangle peer-to-peer network and a free structure.

“By enabling IOTA features with the X-CUBE-IOTA1 extension software for STM32Cube software technology, developers can now easily incorporate IOTA features and capabilities into their IoT devices and build valuable applications with the STM32 open development environment that integrates the 32-bit version of STM32 . microcontroller family with other state-of-the-art ST components,” said Alessandro Cremonesi, VP Systems Research and Applications, STMicroelectronics.

The enhanced IoT solution will provide key industries, such as energy, logistics and others, with enhanced capabilities to improve performance in critical areas, including recognition, power management, connectivity and audio. Developers using STM32 will be able to transfer, buy and sell relevant data using embedded technologies, such as Bluetooth® LE, at a low price and with a simple and reliable solution.

“With custom hardware playing such an integral role in the IoT market, it is exciting to work with partners like ST to enhance the role of the IoT as a facilitator of innovation,” said Holger Koeter, director of partner management at the IOTA Foundation. “The IOTA Foundation welcomes the opportunity to work with enterprise leaders like ST to expand our mission to go beyond blockchain with the world’s first scalable, free and fully decentralized DLT platform, in partnership with the world’s leading technology firms.”

IOTA is a global non-profit foundation based in Germany. The mission of the IOTA Foundation is to support the research and development of new distributed ledger technologies (DLT), including the IOTA Tangle. The Foundation encourages learning and adoption of distributed ledger technologies through the creation of ecosystems and the standardization of these new protocols.
IOTA Tangle goes beyond the blockchain to offer the world's first scalable, free and fully decentralized distributed register technology. Tangle uses its own unique technology to solve three fundamental problems with blockchain technology: high fees, scaling and centralization. It is an open source protocol that connects the economy of humans with the economy of machines by simplifying new interactions between computers (M2M), including secure data transfer, free micropayments and secure access control for devices.
