BitMEX report: almost all IEOs fell 80% or more

  • A BitMEX report found that most of the Initial Exchange Offers (IEOs) since May have fallen in price.
  • Most projects have declined by 80 percent, and only four projects have brought positive returns since launch.

Initial Exchange Offers (IEOs), which were announced as a substitute for Initial Coin Offers (ICOs) in 2019, were terribly unsuccessful, with most investors losing 80% or more.

According to the new report crypto exchange research arm of BitMEX, IEOs around the world have seen significant price declines since the beginning of the year. The initial May 2019 report detailed the twelve projects launched as IEOs and assessed their performance over the course of the year:

Back in May 2019, we reviewed what was a relatively new phenomenon at the time, Initial Exchange Offerings (IEO). We cynically pointed out that IEOs appear to have been an attempt to convert the letter "C" in ICO into a new letter "E" in order to avoid the reputation for poor investment return associated with ICOs.

A BitMEX report found that despite the high cost of Bitcoin since May 2019, which at one point climbed to $ 13, eleven out of twelve projects have dropped significantly in value. Only Matic, a Binance IEO, managed to increase value: most projects lost more than 000% of their value, and four projects lost more than 80%.

Despite the fact that IEO introductory prices are generally lower than the initial trading price on exchanges, only four out of eleven have been able to get a positive return on investment since launch.
